Every trip to Torch Lake has to include a visit (or two, or three) to the famous sandbar! Located on the South end of Torch Lake, you can be anchored and swimming at the sandbar in about 20 minutes from the time you leave the dock!
The sandbar has depths ranging from ankle to chest deep, so you’ll be able to find a place just right for your group. Take a cooler with lunch and spend the day. There’s no better way to spend a warm summer day than anchored at the sandbar! On summer weekends the Burger Barge is often selling burgers, hot dogs and ice cream!
To get there (15-20 minutes): When you leave the dock, head right and head upstream towards Torch Lake. After you go under the bridge and get out into the lake, the sandbar will be to your right. Chances are you’ll see the cluster of boats.
The Bridge that you go under to enter Torch Lake is in the bottom right corner of this picture. The shallowest water (ankle deep) is the small patch near the dark blue water that is outlined by boats. But as you can see, the shallow area extends down the south end of the lake. Water here ranges from knee deep to chest deep. You can often find a place a little quieter the farther you get from the “sandbar”, if you’re looking for a less rowdy crowd. Always watch your depth and keep the prop elevated. Its’ often easier to get off and pull the boat in once you reach the shallow area.
